BURLINGTON PHOTO TOUR (14 MAY 2005)

The skies were cloudy for our first tour of 2005, but that didn't stop a dozen OFBA members from touring and photographing the rigs of the Burlington Fire Department.  Burlington is a fast-growing city of  150,000 located on the shore of Lake Ontario next to Hamilton.  Burlington Fire operates from seven stations and has a composite force of 148 full-time firefighters and 100 volunteers.  Station 305 in rural Kilbide is all-volunteer and there are back up part-timers at some of the urban halls as well.

Thanks to the firefighters and administration for our visit.

In recent years, many of Burlington's apparatus purchases have been made from Smeal.  Burlington Ladder 312 is a 2004 unit on a Spartan Gladiator chassis and is equipped with a 1500 IGPM pump and 105' aerial.

Pump 3 (or 313) is a 1993 Spartan Gladiator/Saulsbury 1050/500 rescue-pumper, one of four purchased by the department.

The City purchased a second batch of Saulsburys in 1996.  Pump 305 is one of two Spartan Gladiator-chassised 1050/800 units.  P305 is stationed at Kilbride in the rural portion of northern Burlington.

Quint 361 is a 2003 Spartan Gladiator / Smeal with a 55' ladder, 1500 IGPM pump, 400 gallon tank and 15 gallon foam cell.

Possibly the only Hahn in Canada!  This 1985 Hahn/Saulsbury rescue originally served Packanack Lake, New Jersey.  It was purchased a few years ago as a Support and Hazmat truck.

This antique 1922 REO is kept at the Kilbride Hall (#35).

Also at Killbride is Tanker 305, a 2002 IHC 7400/Crimson.  This 3000 gallon unit (with 250 IGPM pump) may be the only Crimson unit in Canada.

At one time, Burlington was a keen customer of Pierre Thibault fire trucks.  This 1988 White Volvo WX64/Thibault midship is the only Thibault rig remaining.  It's equipped with a 75' aerial, 840 IGPM pump and 400 gallon tank.
